Meet Michael, a photographer who finds solace and peace in the heart of nature.
Michael Ahlén is a wildlife photographer and entrepreneur with a deep focus on atmosphere, authenticity, and untamed landscapes. Whether he’s capturing the intense gaze of a predator or the fury of a snowstorm rolling across open tundra, his work is rooted in patience, presence, and precision.
His style leans cinematic, often drawing on the timeless strength of black and white. Stripped of distraction, these images emphasize contrast, form, and emotion in ways color rarely can. But when a story demands color, he uses it deliberately—muted, balanced, and in service of the mood.
What defines his photography isn’t gear or technique—it’s presence. From the howl of Arctic winds to the stillness before a bird takes flight, Michael’s images aim to feel as much as they show. He doesn’t just document wildlife—he captures what it’s like to stand there, breath visible, heart still, waiting for something wild to break the frame.
Michael’s path didn’t begin behind a camera. He built and led several successful companies before deciding to shift course. Not to stop building—but to build something more personal, more grounded, and deeply connected to the natural world. Now in his early 50s, he’s channeling decades of business experience into a new venture: wildlife photography, expedition filmmaking, and a photo tour company built for serious photographers who want more than a checklist.
He is also the Editor-in-Chief and founder of Proffsfoto.se, Sweden’s premier news site for professional photographers and filmmakers—delivering breaking news, in-depth reviews, and industry insights.
He and his family are strong advocates for wildlife conservation, supporting several organizations working to protect endangered species and fragile ecosystems.
When he’s not in the field, you’ll find him on mountain bike trails, skiing with his family, or scouting the next wild destination. These aren’t just hobbies—they’re an extension of the same instinct: stay sharp, stay curious, stay out there.

Skills
From the frozen edges of the Arctic to fast-paced field shoots deep in the wild, my skillset is built around adaptability, precision, and storytelling. Whether working with long lenses, drones, or handheld video rigs, I rely on practical experience and instinct to capture moments that matter.
In 2025, I joined forces with renowned wildlife photographer Brutus Östling as a partner in Focus RAW—the awesome photography tour company he founded in 2020. With Brutus’ decades of expertise and my own background in photography, visual storytelling, and business, we’re working together to elevate Focus RAW into Scandinavia’s leading platform for serious photo expeditions.
Focus RAW offers more than travel—it’s about deep immersion in wild places, guided by those who live and breathe the craft. Whether it’s white-tailed eagles in Norway or big cats in Africa, every journey is designed to provide intimate access, professional guidance, and the kind of photographic moments that stay with you for life.

SUPPORTING CONSERVATION
Michael is deeply committed to wildlife conservation.
In 2023 he founded North Impact together with his wife.
North Impact’s founders, Michael and Catharina Ahlén, strongly believe entrepreneurs are the only ones who can solve the ongoing wildlife and climate crisis. We aim to do our part and make an impact from the North part of the globe.

Protecting over 1.6 million acres of wilderness in the Amboseli-Tsavo-Kilimanjaro ecosystem of East Africa, Big Life partners with local communities to protect nature for the benefit of all.
Since its inception, Big Life has expanded to employ hundreds of local Maasai rangers—with more than 30 permanent outposts and tent-based field units, 14 patrol vehicles, 2 tracker dogs, and 2 planes for aerial surveillance.
Co-founded in September 2010 by photographer Nick Brandt, conservationist Richard Bonham, and entrepreneur Tom Hill, Big Life was the first organization in East Africa to establish coordinated cross-border anti-poaching operations.
Lewa serves as a safe refuge for the critically endangered black rhino and the endangered Grevy’s zebra, as well as the elephant, lion, giraffe, wild dog and other iconic wildlife species in Kenya. The Conservancy is also home to more than 450 species of birds.
Lewa envisions a future where people across Kenya value, protect and benefit from wildlife. This future depends on communities being able to derive their day-to-day livelihoods in ways that are compatible with thriving wildlife habitat. As a result, Lewa invests heavily in the livelihoods of its neighbours through programmes in education, healthcare, water, micro-enterprise, youth empowerment and more.
Lewa has combined the techniques of world-class anti-poaching operations, including cutting edge monitoring technology, with the engagement of the surrounding communities as critical partners in conservation.

Safeguarding the future of wild polar bears across the Arctic, Polar Bears International is the only organization dedicated solely to the conservation of this iconic species and its rapidly disappearing sea ice habitat.
Through a combination of cutting-edge research, public education, and policy advocacy, Polar Bears International works alongside leading scientists and Arctic communities to better understand polar bear behavior and the profound impacts of climate change on their survival.
Founded in 1992 by a small group of wildlife scientists and conservationists, the organization has grown into a globally recognized leader in polar bear conservation—operating research stations in Churchill, Manitoba, deploying GPS tracking collars, and running live den cams to inspire action and awareness worldwide.
